A Moment in The Life

Icky and Stinky were veterans of the war on garbage.  They had been on the routes at the university for over twenty years.  They were leaning on a gaylord in the warehouse sorting white ledger when a note scribbled on a piece of printer paper caught Icky’s attention.  It read, “Burn an unborn library in the name of Jesus Christ, leave them stupid so they won’t do as much harm.”

He handed it to Stinky.  He grunted.

“There are a million stories in the city; this is just one.”, Stinky said.

                “Dragnet,” said Icky.

This would have been the moment that they stepped outside the warehouse for a smoke, but they gave this habit up when the campus went smoke free.

So, they climbed into the Air Force blue step van and drove up to the coffee shop at the Student Union to get a cup of joe.  They were both humming the theme music to Dragnet as they went.

About johnsmithiiimxiii

John Smith, IIMXIII is the avatar of an award winning poet, artist, etc. who still lives in the Palouse country of the Pacific NW. He has not received much notice with his prose . . . but as his avatar, I hope that he keeps plugging along.
